Turritella Agate

The name Turritella refers to a genus of sea snails with tightly coiled shells. Despite this stone's common name, Turritella Agate does not actually contain snails from the Turritella genus, but the shells have a similar appearance.

The heavily spiraled shells within these beads belonged to snails of the Elimia tenera species. This species of snail lived during the Eocene Epoch, which spanned from about 55 to 33 million years ago.

The rich history carried within Turritella Agate makes it a wonderful meditation stone, which has been associated with both wisdom and healing.

Turritella Agate is found in several locations in North America. All the Turritella Agate currently available through Dream Raven Designs are from Wyoming.
