Miniature Apples - Woody
These 1:12 scale miniature apples are sculpted from premium polymer clay and modeled after fresh-from-the-orchard apples grown here on the farm. The variety is unknown, the tree having been planted over sixty years ago by previous owners.
My father named the tree Woody because, well, Woody is growing in the woods. Since his planting, the woodland edge has crept into the field, and Woody is now more in the woods than in the field with Douglas firs towering above him. But Woody doesn't let the uppity young conifers bother him, and despite his age and more shaded locale, every fall he still provides us with a enough apples for loaves of scrumptious apple bread.
Woody is a late maturing tree with light green fruit that blushes to a unique magenta rose where the sun touches them. The fruit is firm and can be rather large, but like any good old apple, there is a wide variation in fruit size and even shape, which is represented here in this miniature set.
The stems and blossom ends are done in clay like the rest of the fruit while the blended color is created with pastels before the apples are baked and glazed.
As they are handmade, and each is meant to be unique, there is variation in size, color and shape from piece to piece, but these apples range in size from 1/4" to 3/8" (around 1/2 to 1 cm) tall including stem.
Woody's apples are available in small, medium, and large sizes, which mimic the natural variation found on an apple tree. These miniature apples can be purchased individually in your chosen size or as a set of five (pictured) that includes one large, two medium, and two small apples.
